Greendown's new star!

A budding film maker from Greendown has just had his new film "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" shown at the Arts centre. It was part of the competition "Pre-loader" and Lewis Rogers, year 10, made his way to the top 9 out of many other entrants from all over Wiltshire.

I managed to talk to Lewis after the event to find out how he felt about the experience.

What gave you the idea for the film?
I thought it would be interesting to do a modern twist on a fable that everyone knows, so I decided to do "the three billy goats gruff", as I would have alot of freedom with the character designs.
How long did it take to make?
I started the character designs in December 2006 and finished the animation in September 2008.
What have you you learnt from making this film?
I learnt more about how to use adobe flash, including a way of animating called Onion-skinning which is similar to hand drawn animation. Also I learnt how to do lipsynch to dialogue to make characters talk.
How did you feel having your film shown?
I felt thrilled! I felt really proud that my film had been shown to the public and that people enjoyed it. Also that my work was appreciated.
What have you got planned for the future?
My film making group, "media plus", have been given some money from "firstlight films" (A company who help young film makers) to make a short 3D animation. It's called "pre-historic pet shop" and I came up with the story, did character designs and will be lead animator. My friend, Chris Barnard, Year 11, will be the producer of the film.
Also, I'm writing a Zombie Comedy film with my friends, Tom Joynson and Casey Singlehurst, which is inspired by Shaun of the dead.

Thankyou Lewis! The three billy goats gruff can be found on Lewis' youtube page www.youtube.com/toonist26 . It has been viewed all over he world and Lewis has even been requested to study at Vancouver filmschool, in Canada. You'd better watch it!

Reminding People of Our Motto

Remember our motto - Think of the Other Person? Well, people aren't thinking of this when they vandalise the toilets and smash glass off the bike shed. Do you think the school like it when people do this sort of thing? It costs the school to repair the broken things and this means that the school can't buy other things that are important. You wouldn't kick the toilet door in your house, would you? Didn't think so, so think of the other person!

Remember your school motto!

Year 9 Options Due Today

We are reminding all Year 9 pupils that their options booklets, issued before Christmas, is meant to be handed in today. If you have failed to hand this in, your options will be put to the back of the pile, making your future preferred subject at risk.

School Dinners

Indulge yourself this winter with our finest meals, as the temperatures around us are dropping I am sure you wound feel obliged to eat a warm, satisfying meal. There is a lot of variety in our school canteen, providing healthy and delicious meals each lunch. The food varies from cold tasty baguettes and sandwiches to warm cheesy pasta king to piping hot traditional meals. Not only do we have traditional meals, we have moderm and nutritious new recipes that have recently been added to the menu that consist of not only healthy, but scrumptious ingredients including some of yours a day. There are many vegetarian options that can satisfy your needs.

It is overwhleming how the quality of our food has improved over the past years, making it high scoring on the pupils' satisfaction. Whilst our quality rises, the prices have remained the same, giving you a lot more for your money. The meals we serve are reasonably priced, possibly the best in our region.

As you know, we have just recently introduced the cashless card system. It has been a great success with pupils and staff. It is also eliminated many problems within the canteen, some of these included - bullying for money, losing your money and children spending money on bad habits and worthless items. It is also a good way for parents to see what their children are spending their money on. As you may know, the cashless system has made lunches faster, giving pupils and staff a longer lunch to relax after difficult, mind-bending lessons. And it is soon going to get better, as now we can pay online saving any fuss at school, putting money on at breaks.

So pay a visit to the canteen and see what meals we have to offer, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

DADS AND LADS THE SECOND!

Thirteen Greendowners keenly contested the second edition of Dads & Lads on Saturday January 10th.
Once Mr Radford had squared the handicap system will all participants, Doug introduced Dom and Dave, and then all five of us with Mr Pocock ran through our order of events and their rulings.
The Lads that had keenly contested the warm up sessions also wondered where Kayleigh was and wanted her back to help them again!
Points were available to be given by one of the 5 instructors for any one of the following things: winning a game, losing a game in the right spirit, helping an opponent in any way, being a good sport so you really were being a “Greendowner” and “Thinking of the other Dad and Lad!”
Dodgeball had a warm up to it and then various games which were enjoyed by all. It was fun and certainly woke us up at 9 a.m! [see photo 235]
Then we played Ultimate Frisbee which was absolutely brilliant. It really made for building of strong team ethic with 2 Dads and 2 Lads on a team, Doug even had the great idea of including an instructor on each team [see photo 224] so we got to run about purposefully too!
All the time us instructors were keenly seeking sporting moments of prowess or just as importantly acts of kindness to reward Lads and Dads equally with points towards the medal table.
Each instructor, unknown to the contestants, had a Special Award medal to give to someone at the end for who they saw fit, and to tell us why we had chosen that particular Lad ... or Dad!
Danish Long Ball followed set up by Mr Pocock, it saw plenty of runs being scored and teams scratching their heads as to how to sort out their tactics, not as easy as it seems!
Then Mr Pocock set his footy challenge, a battle against the clock but trying to score goals too. Teams scored points not only for scoring goals but for their timing, good saves and also the way they encouraged each other. [see photo 253]
We finished with a customary penalty shoot out.

the Lads then received their medals and the Special Awards came as a surprise to them. Each Instructor told the whole group why each person got their special award.
Pedro handed over the glory of being first champion; Hadyn, Callum and Josh were battling it out but were pipped in the end by a superb finish from Aiden! Pedro is resigned to a 7th placed finish but keeps a replica of his trophy. He still loved the photo shoot handing over his title! [see photo 267]

Aiden will defend his with pride next time, his Dad was walking around saying “I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it”; like he had just won the Cup! He had!
Every one of you be proud of your attitude and the spirit you brought and shared at our Second Dads and Lads.

A Day in the Life of a G-Mag!

I know many people that enjoy reading the G-Mag, Greendown's online newspaper, so we have decided to tell you some things that we do.
  • We discuss topics to write about. We then give someone the job of writing the artical.
  • We then decide on how to improve the website, and how to make it fun for all to read and enjoy!
  • With the last statement, please leave comments on how we can improve the site.
  • The head of the G-Mag is Mr Lanchester. He is also in charge of looking after CCTV, which are nearly everywhere (apart from the loos!)
