School Dinners

Indulge yourself this winter with our finest meals, as the temperatures around us are dropping I am sure you wound feel obliged to eat a warm, satisfying meal. There is a lot of variety in our school canteen, providing healthy and delicious meals each lunch. The food varies from cold tasty baguettes and sandwiches to warm cheesy pasta king to piping hot traditional meals. Not only do we have traditional meals, we have moderm and nutritious new recipes that have recently been added to the menu that consist of not only healthy, but scrumptious ingredients including some of yours a day. There are many vegetarian options that can satisfy your needs.

It is overwhleming how the quality of our food has improved over the past years, making it high scoring on the pupils' satisfaction. Whilst our quality rises, the prices have remained the same, giving you a lot more for your money. The meals we serve are reasonably priced, possibly the best in our region.

As you know, we have just recently introduced the cashless card system. It has been a great success with pupils and staff. It is also eliminated many problems within the canteen, some of these included - bullying for money, losing your money and children spending money on bad habits and worthless items. It is also a good way for parents to see what their children are spending their money on. As you may know, the cashless system has made lunches faster, giving pupils and staff a longer lunch to relax after difficult, mind-bending lessons. And it is soon going to get better, as now we can pay online saving any fuss at school, putting money on at breaks.

So pay a visit to the canteen and see what meals we have to offer, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

DADS AND LADS THE SECOND!

Thirteen Greendowners keenly contested the second edition of Dads & Lads on Saturday January 10th.
Once Mr Radford had squared the handicap system will all participants, Doug introduced Dom and Dave, and then all five of us with Mr Pocock ran through our order of events and their rulings.
The Lads that had keenly contested the warm up sessions also wondered where Kayleigh was and wanted her back to help them again!
Points were available to be given by one of the 5 instructors for any one of the following things: winning a game, losing a game in the right spirit, helping an opponent in any way, being a good sport so you really were being a “Greendowner” and “Thinking of the other Dad and Lad!”
Dodgeball had a warm up to it and then various games which were enjoyed by all. It was fun and certainly woke us up at 9 a.m! [see photo 235]
Then we played Ultimate Frisbee which was absolutely brilliant. It really made for building of strong team ethic with 2 Dads and 2 Lads on a team, Doug even had the great idea of including an instructor on each team [see photo 224] so we got to run about purposefully too!
All the time us instructors were keenly seeking sporting moments of prowess or just as importantly acts of kindness to reward Lads and Dads equally with points towards the medal table.
Each instructor, unknown to the contestants, had a Special Award medal to give to someone at the end for who they saw fit, and to tell us why we had chosen that particular Lad ... or Dad!
Danish Long Ball followed set up by Mr Pocock, it saw plenty of runs being scored and teams scratching their heads as to how to sort out their tactics, not as easy as it seems!
Then Mr Pocock set his footy challenge, a battle against the clock but trying to score goals too. Teams scored points not only for scoring goals but for their timing, good saves and also the way they encouraged each other. [see photo 253]
We finished with a customary penalty shoot out.

the Lads then received their medals and the Special Awards came as a surprise to them. Each Instructor told the whole group why each person got their special award.
Pedro handed over the glory of being first champion; Hadyn, Callum and Josh were battling it out but were pipped in the end by a superb finish from Aiden! Pedro is resigned to a 7th placed finish but keeps a replica of his trophy. He still loved the photo shoot handing over his title! [see photo 267]

Aiden will defend his with pride next time, his Dad was walking around saying “I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it”; like he had just won the Cup! He had!
Every one of you be proud of your attitude and the spirit you brought and shared at our Second Dads and Lads.

I know many people that enjoy reading the G-Mag, Greendown's online newspaper, so we have decided to tell you some things that we do.
  • We discuss topics to write about. We then give someone the job of writing the artical.
  • We then decide on how to improve the website, and how to make it fun for all to read and enjoy!
  • With the last statement, please leave comments on how we can improve the site.
  • The head of the G-Mag is Mr Lanchester. He is also in charge of looking after CCTV, which are nearly everywhere (apart from the loos!)

Cheer Dance Sucess!

3 weeks ago on Friday some of the Greendown girls took part in a street cheer competition against over schools in Swindon.KS3 took part in the dance category and KS4 took part in the cheer leading category. Both teams won a first place trophy , we interviewed some of the girls , this is what they answered...

WERE YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE OTHER COMPETITORS?
Yes, all of the groups were strong contenders and showed that they had spent a lot of time practising. We were shocked and surprised by the quality of their routines.

WERE YOU SHOCKED WHEN YOU FOUND OUT THE RESULTS?
We were completely astonished about the results. We knew all the teams are strong and when we were announced as winners we all ran and screamed in surprise and held up the trophy in triumph.

HOW MUCH DID YOU PUT INTO THE ROUTINE?
Alot, we all put in a 150%, the routine was difficult and absorbed all our time at lunches and after school.

SWINDON vs BRISTOL ROVERS NOV 22ND

Swindon vs Bristol Rovers - Greendown Pupils get special treatment!

Here we are, Glenn Franklin and Charlotte Milsom of year 11 at the top of the Uplands Stand. Mr Radford took us up to the top. True Swindon fans will know the scarf we are holding.

Now we have turned round looking west towards the Bristol town centre with the DAS enclosure behind us.

Here we are in this enclosure, after having walked around the pitch. This is the official executive box board welcoming Swindon’s Board of Directors.

And finally outside the Bass Terrace entrance where the Rovers fans stood. It was a great game and ended 2 all to Swindon!!

George Tweed Retirement home

Do you know about George Tweed? well, we started working with George tweed 2 years ago, the first thing we did was speaking to the link, they made an article saying the school wanted to get some fish for George Tweeds fish pond. people turned up with buckets of fish and then we bought them a computer and printer for there lounge about a year ago and they enjoyed using it so were paying for their Internet. the computer and printer cost about £500 together. were planning on taking some pupils from Greendown school to show them how to use it and invite them to a Christmas carol service trying to get them knowing a few faces

RLC Banned at lunch!

As many of you know, you can't log onto the computers in the RLC at lunchtimes, Do you know why this is? its because some people have decided to put water in a £400 computer. They have also decided to trash the the RLC suite! this is silly behaviour as many people used this suite for homework and good reasons... Do you know that Greendown spent over £60,000 on the computers that now we are not aloud to use because of this silly behaviour...

We also decided to interview Mr McGlaughlin and this is what he told us:
  1. Will we be able to get out RlC suite back at lunchtimes for students?
    A. 'Well we do need someone to supervise the suite at lunchtimes...'
  2. Should we have a timetable for different years e.g Monday- yr 7, Tuesday - yr 8?
A.'Yes, what we could do is have a student monitor to look after it at lunchtimes.'
  3. What do you think about computers being trashed at lunchtimes?
    A. I think it is terrible behaviour and two computers have been trashed by people pouring water into them and that is a reason why we can't use the RLC.
